Jason Dwyer - Designer + Illustrator

  • In painting you can't be afraid of an idea not turning out. Worrying about the end result of a painting before even getting started, has killed many a masterpiece before it got off the ground. It is important to remember that making art is a process, and that the process is often more valuable than what it actually produces.
Recently, I got to tackling a large 6' piece of cardboard, all the while feeling unsure about what I wanted to do with it. Initially, I had an idea about including a bunch of different sketchbook portraits. Once finished, I found myself not really thrilled with the result. After a few days away, I revisited the painting with fresh eyes and a new idea began to evolve, right over top of the old one. Much more in tune with what I had originally wanted to create, Average Shelf Life was born through the natural layering process, an organic creation that earned its right to exist.

Over a year after learning of his well documented infidelities, media and fans alike, are still not shy when it comes to taking swings at Tiger Woods. And who can blame them really? Its one thing when a giant media personalities' private life is put under the microscope because they've done something really foolish but it's quite another thing when one of the legends of the game lets down his sport.

Largely credited with the astronomical rise in golf's popularity, and nearly undefeatable for the majority of his career, Tiger's best finish this year is fourth. Without Tiger at the top of his game, the average fan has nobody left to root for or against. Tiger's crummy play since the truth of his wild womanizing ways was exposed, has left golf grasping for anyone with a hint of charisma, to take on the ambassador role for the sport. Unfortunately it's like trying to find a VCR in the days of DVD and BluRay. Golf needs Tiger and until he gets his swing back, he's an easy target. Hopefully he doesn't cry himself to sleep at night.

There was a particularly tense stand-off this morning between a stubborn blue jay and rough-around-the-edges squirrel. Do desperate angry squirrels eat birds? hmmm. But as of yet this spring, the rare Weiner Dog Balloon Bird, has remained elusive.
